Frequently Asked Questions
What subjects do you tutor?
I specialize in biology at all levels—from middle school through college—with expertise in molecular genetics, cellular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, and immunology. I also mentor AP Biology, science fair projects, and undergraduate research presentations.
Do you only work with advanced students?
Not at all. While I mentor advanced students and aspiring scientists, I also enjoy helping middle and high school students build confidence and curiosity in biology.
Can you help with AP Biology?
Yes. I cover the AP Biology curriculum, help students practice FRQs, and share strategies for effective test prep.
What about science fair projects?
I guide students in choosing ISEF-worthy projects that don’t require expensive lab equipment. We refine the question, design experiments, and learn to analyze and present results.
Do you tutor individuals and groups?
Both. Most sessions are one-on-one, and I also offer small-group tutoring when students are working on similar topics.
How do I schedule a session?
Book directly through my online calendar (linked on my site) or email me to request times.
Do you meet online or in person?
Primarily online via Zoom or Google Meet. In-person sessions may be available in the Columbus, Ohio area.
How long is each session?
Sessions are typically 60 minutes; 30- or 90-minute options available based on need.
Do you offer a trial session?
Yes—a discounted introductory session to assess fit and set goals.
What are your rates?
Rates are competitive and reflect PhD-level expertise and 18 years of teaching. Please contact me for current pricing.
Do you require long-term commitments?
No. Book as you go. Many students choose weekly sessions; others schedule as needed.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Emergencies are understood.
What makes your tutoring different?
I combine subject expertise with mentoring—building scientific writing, critical thinking, and presentation skills students carry beyond the classroom.
How do you keep students motivated?
Sessions are tailored to learning style, balancing structure with curiosity-driven exploration. We celebrate progress and make science approachable.
Do you give homework?
Sometimes. If additional practice will help, I provide optional assignments with clear goals.
Can you help with research posters or abstracts?
Yes. I coach on writing strong abstracts, structuring posters, and giving engaging oral presentations.
